Tiny home build timeline

How Long Does a Tiny Home Take to Build in NZ?

From the day you place an order to the day your tiny home lands on your section, the typical NZ timeline is 8–18 weeks depending on size and build range. Here's the realistic breakdown of what happens during that time.

Typical Smart Housing Solutions timeline

From confirmed order to delivery, our typical lead times:

  • Cabin (4.5×3 to 6×3): 4–8 weeks
  • Cabin (7×3 to 8×3): 6–10 weeks
  • Tiny home (6m to 10m): 8–12 weeks
  • Tiny home (12m to 14m): 10–14 weeks

What happens during the build

Weeks 1–2: chassis and structural frame in our Raglan workshop. Steel cut, chassis welded, structural panels assembled.

Building consent runs in parallel

If your build needs council consent (most tiny homes do), the consent process runs alongside the build - typically 6–10 weeks from documents-ready to approved consent. We aim to finish the build around the time your consent comes through, so the cabin / tiny home can land as soon as you've got the green light.

Site works on your end

While we're building, you'll typically be: getting site quotes from local trades for the foundation, power, plumbing, and any landscaping; engaging a builder for site supervision if you want one; sorting council documentation. We give you a clear list of what's needed on your end at order time.
