Tiny Home Delivery NZ: How It Works

Once your tiny home or cabin is built, getting it from our Raglan workshop to your section is its own logistics exercise. This guide covers how we deliver, what's free, what costs extra, and what to expect on delivery day.

Free North Island delivery - what's actually free

We offer free gate-to-gate North Island delivery on most ≤8×3 designs. 'Gate-to-gate' means we deliver to the gate / boundary of your section. From there to the final position on your land is a separate step (typically a Hiab crane lift, or rolling the cabin on skates / piles).

What's NOT covered by free delivery: the final Hiab lift onto your site (typically $300–800), any access difficulty (narrow rural driveways, overhead power lines, tight corners), or builds over 8×3 (which need a transport surcharge).

How the truck arrives

Cabins and smaller tiny homes typically arrive on a Hiab truck - that's a flatbed with an articulated crane. The Hiab unloads the cabin in one piece, lifts it over fences or buildings if needed, and places it on your prepared foundation pad.

Larger tiny homes (12m+) usually arrive on a low-loader truck. Placement uses a separate Hiab crane that meets the truck on site, or rolling on temporary skates if the cabin is going on permanent piles.

Delivery surcharges for larger builds

Builds over 8×3 attract a delivery surcharge because they're over-dimension loads. Typical surcharges:

  • 12m × 3m: typically $500–1,200
  • 12m × 4m: typically $1,000–2,000
  • 14m × 3m: typically $1,000–2,000
  • 14m × 4m: typically $1,500–4,000 (escort vehicles required)

Delivery day prep

Before delivery day, you'll want:

  • Foundation pad ready (concrete piles, gravel pad, or piles to your engineer's spec)
  • Clear access for the truck (driveway width, turning circle, overhead clearance)
  • Power and plumbing rough-in to the cabin position
  • Any neighbours notified if the truck will block driveways briefly
